How to calculate odds

This calculator converts a probability into odds format — expressing the same likelihood as a ratio rather than a percentage.

How the calculation works

Odds = (Probability ÷ 100) ÷ (1 − Probability ÷ 100).

Example

A 25% probability: (0.25)÷(1−0.25) = 0.25÷0.75 ≈ 0.333, commonly expressed as odds of about 1:3.

Pro Tips for Odds

  1. Odds and probability describe the same likelihood but in different formats — a 50% probability corresponds to even odds (1:1), while probabilities above 50% correspond to odds greater than 1.
  2. This is the inverse operation of converting odds back to probability.

Common Odds Mistakes to Avoid

  • Confusing odds (a ratio of favorable to unfavorable outcomes) with probability (a percentage of total outcomes) — they're related but numerically different ways of expressing likelihood.
